Eastern Zig-zag Salamander
April, 2002- Union Co. IL
The first time I saw Zig-zag Salamanders was at Pine Hills. I turned a log and found about eight of them.
There were two distinct color phases between the ones under this log. There was the "normal" zig-zag phase, and the
"leadback" phase. Its sometimes difficult to think that these salamanders, living so close together could look
this different.
