Queen Snake
 
May 26, 2001- Cook Co. IL

In an area where they were once abundant, I have only been able to find two Queen Snakes in the last two years.  I don't know why the population has declined.  It might be because these snakes are picky, and eat exclusivly newly molted crayfish.  I think the crayfish population has declined in the area, thus causing the Queen Snakes to suffer as well.
